The text-based RPG, Suzerain, has already garnered praise for its engaging gameplay. Now, with the release of the 2.0 “Amendment” update, developers Torpor Games have taken the game’s political intrigue to new heights.
This “massive overhaul” introduces highly requested features, enhances presentation, and expands the realm of corrupt scheming and diplomacy, providing players with an even richer experience.
In a recent Steam blog post, the development team shared that the “Amendment” update represents the culmination of a year-long endeavor to refine and expand upon the original game.
Excitingly, this is only the first of several planned free updates. Torpor Mode, a new addition, now allows players to manually save their progress after completing the game, enabling them to explore alternative paths and outcomes.
New Features and Improvements
The “Amendment” update brings a wealth of new features to Suzerain. Players will appreciate the overhauled user interface, world map integration, and the addition of collectible items, enriching the gameplay experience.
But the heart of Suzerain lies in its political machinations, and the update doesn’t disappoint in this regard. Players will encounter 12 new scenes, 6 bills to deliberate on, and over 300 extra news articles to flesh out the consequences of their presidential decisions.
Deepening Political Scheming
The development team has gone above and beyond to deepen the complexity of political scheming. Existing scenes have been revamped, and several characters’ storylines have been expanded to offer players even more engaging narratives.
A particular highlight is the new “Holsord-related lore,” which connects to the upcoming street-level follow-up, The Conformist, currently in development.
Torpor Games has even bigger plans for Suzerain, including paid expansions. The first of these, the Kingdom Of Rizia DLC, is set four years before the main game and places players in a royal position, guiding the fate of Rizia.
While swapping the presidential role for a royal one, the expansion promises to maintain the cunning negotiations and tough decisions that have become the hallmark of Suzerain.
A Game of Tough Choices and Consequences
Suzerain’s compelling gameplay, involving tough choices and their far-reaching consequences, has earned high praise from players and critics alike.
The game’s ability to evoke emotions, from disappointment at betrayal to triumph in legislative victories, showcases its immersive storytelling and engaging mechanics.
For the next two weeks, Suzerain is available at a discounted price of £3.80/$4.50 on Steam. After August 14th, the game’s price will increase to $19.99, reflecting the added value and enhancements in the “Amendment” update. If you’re intrigued by the world of political intrigue and captivating decision-making, now is the perfect time to embark on this thrilling adventure in Suzerain.
