Jamie Lee Curtis, renowned for her iconic roles in films like Halloween and Freaky Friday, is not just a silver screen star. With TV credits that include New Girl, NCIS, and Scream Queens, Curtis is no stranger to the world of television.
Now, she’s eyeing a potential role in one of Netflix’s most talked-about shows of recent times: the live-action adaptation of One Piece. As a devoted One Piece fan, Curtis is eager to bring her passion to the project, and fans are equally enthusiastic about the prospect.
A Fan’s Dream Role
Curtis, celebrated for her contributions to the horror genre, surprised many by revealing her deep love for One Piece. Fans of the manga and anime have long advocated for her to portray the character Doctor Kureha. Taking to her Instagram page, Curtis announced her intention to campaign for the role once the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes.
Doctor Kureha, a character well into her centenary years, is often dubbed a “witch” due to her age, unique patient treatment methods, and reclusive lifestyle. She takes the young reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper, under her wing after his previous guardian, Doctor Hiriluk, succumbs to a deadly illness. Kureha imparts her medical knowledge to Chopper, shaping him into the Straw Hat Pirates’ resident doctor.
With the announcement of Chopper’s appearance in One Piece Season 2, it’s highly likely that Doctor Kureha will play a significant role in the upcoming season. Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her exceptional acting prowess, is a perfect fit for this character. Her interest in the role has caught the attention of the show’s creators and casting directors.
A Win-Win Situation
One of the most enticing aspects of Curtis potentially joining the One Piece cast is that it wouldn’t demand a substantial time commitment from the actress. Kureha’s appearances in the series are sporadic, making it feasible for Curtis to participate without being tied to the Netflix show for an extended period.
While One Piece Season 2 scripts are reportedly “ready,” the resolution of the ongoing actors’ strike is a prerequisite for significant progress. This may delay announcements regarding castings for the upcoming season. Nevertheless, fans are eagerly crossing their fingers in the hope that Jamie Lee Curtis will secure the role of Doctor Kureha in the meantime.
