An elderly couple, longing for a child, discovers Pecharunt and, overwhelmed with joy, adopts it as their own. Initially, this seems like a happy ending, a rare moment of familial bliss in the Pokémon world. However, this is merely the start of a more sinister narrative.

As the story progresses, Pecharunt’s unique ability to create Mochi begins to take a dark turn. The Pokémon uses this power to manipulate the couple’s minds, intensifying their affection for it to the point of obsession. This manipulation spirals into greed, as the couple, now under Pecharunt’s influence, demands more and more from their adopted Pokémon.
The couple’s insatiable greed leads them to desire a set of particular masks, key elements in the game’s lore. To fulfill this quest, Pecharunt enlists the help of three retainers, dubbed “The Loyal Three,” using its Mochi to control them. Their journey takes them to Kitakami, where they encounter Ogerpon and its master, the guardians of the masks.

A tragic turn of events unfolds when Pecharunt and its minions attempt to steal the masks. In the ensuing conflict, Ogerpon’s master is killed, triggering a fierce retaliation from Ogerpon. The aftermath of this battle forces Pecharunt to retreat into its shell, lying dormant until awakened in the modern era of “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.”
This backstory not only enriches the legend of Kitakami and its associated Pokémon but also portrays a side of the Pokémon world that is rarely explored: the consequences of manipulation and greed. Players can now engage with this legend by completing the two-part DLC, “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero,” and using the Mystery Gift to obtain the Mythical Pecha Berry, leading them to the quest involving Pecharunt.
