Acclaimed author Stephen King has high praise for the upcoming film “Strange Darling,” directed by JT Mollner. King previewed the psychological thriller and shared positive thoughts about it on social media. His endorsement adds to buzz surrounding the movie’s August 2024 release.
“Strange Darling” tells the story of a woman targeted by a serial killer after a one-night stand. Willa Fitzgerald plays the main character who finds herself in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Kyle Gallner’s character, revealed to be the killer. The film has been acclaimed for its clever plot twists that keep audiences guessing.
King called “Strange Darling” “really terrific” in a post on the social media site X after seeing an early cut. He said the trailer is a “clever masterpiece” but avoided spoiling the movie’s plot. King praised how the film is “too clever to spoil.” Critics backing up King’s praise with rave reviews of their own.
Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes shows “Strange Darling” holding strong with a perfect 100% score from 18 reviews collected so far. Critics said viewers should experience the film without knowing details to appreciate its surprises. Steven Prokopy called it “one of the most fascinating, flawlessly constructed crime dramas” in a while. Alan Zilberman highlighted “outrageous and subversive” twists challenging expectations. Elliott Collins praised Fitzgerald’s “world class” leading performance and the “incredibly made, twisted cat & mouse non-linear” storytelling.
A recently released scene gives a glimpse of Fitzgerald hiding in the woods to treat an injury while evading pursuit. Off screen, director Mollner is preparing an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Long Walk.” As positive reviews continue and its August release approaches, “Strange Darling” is generating significant buzz among thriller fans.
