Borderlands fans finally received a brief but exciting first look at the upcoming film adaptation of the wildly popular looter shooter franchise today. A 10-second teaser trailer revealed stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, and Jack Black in character, wielding weapons and bringing Pandora’s eccentric personalities to life.
While brief, the footage provides a thrilling taste of the chaotic action and humor that the full-length Borderlands movie aims to deliver. Blanchett’s Siren Lilith demonstrates her supernatural gunslinging abilities. Hart’s ex-soldier Roland unleashes a barrage of bullets befitting of his firearms expertise.
Curtis’ scientist Dr. Tannis abstains from violence in a rare instance. The teen demolitions expert Tiny Tina, played by Greenblatt, flashes her explosive enthusiasm. And franchise mascot Claptrap seems poised to provide his signature quirky commentary, voiced by Black.

The teaser suggests that core elements of the Borderlands experience have successfully translated from game to film. These include larger-than-life characters, frenetic gunplay, and a blend of gritty sci-fi and absurdist comedy. While just a brief taste, the footage should excite fans who have awaited a Borderlands adaptation for nearly a decade since its original announcement in 2012.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford also tweeted a poster featuring the main cast against a background of Pandora, promising the planet’s offbeat denizens will join the vault hunting crew. The full trailer releasing tomorrow will likely provide a more in-depth look at how the world and story of Borderlands takes shape on the big screen.

With Eli Roth directing and Avi Arad and Ari Arad producing, the film boasts major talent behind the camera as well. They face the challenging task of condensing Borderlands’ nonlinear, loot-driven gameplay into a cohesive narrative. But based on the teaser, hopes are high that they have captured the irreverent essence of the games beloved by millions.
While plot details remain under wraps, the August release date inches closer. The teaser trailer kicks off what is sure to be a marketing blitz in coming months aiming to convert game fans into moviegoers. And for the uninitiated, it provides a exciting first glimpse at cinema’s next potential sci-fi action comedy hit. As Pandora would say, it’s time for the party to start.
