Truckful Review: Careful Packing Meets Unreliable Directions

The pleasure of rotating cargo into a crowded truck bed will be familiar to anyone who enjoys arranging Resident Evil 4’s attaché case. Truckful gives that spatial puzzle an unusually practical follow-up: everything you fit inside has to survive the drive. Boxes, awkwardly shaped goods, and even passengers need room in the back of your battered pickup. You can stack and rotate them, then simulate how the load settles before setting off. There is something satisfying about testing an arrangement instead of simply filling every available gap, especially once deliveries become large enough to require actual thought about placement.

The road then tests that thought. Take a corner too quickly or hit a bump at speed, and your tidy arrangement can spill across the countryside. Packing and driving become connected decisions, with the load influencing how aggressively you can approach the next stretch.

Asphalt encourages speed, while dirt, grass, and water complicate handling and momentum. Retrieving a fallen object returns it to its assigned position, and pulling over to repack offers another way to correct an unstable load. Those allowances keep an early mistake manageable, though repeatedly collecting the same cargo soon loses its comic appeal.

Delivery conditions put useful pressure on this relationship. A time limit encourages risks that fragile cargo discourages, while a restriction on repacking asks you to commit to your preparation. Some conditions are optional bonuses, so missing one does not necessarily invalidate the job.

Still, the extra earnings matter when better equipment is waiting at the garage. A delivery can technically succeed while leaving you tempted to reload and chase the reward you missed. Truckful finds a workable challenge here, provided you can read the road and trust the controls enough to understand what went wrong.

That trust is weakened by the camera. Fixed viewpoints change as you move through the environment, giving the countryside varied compositions but also changing the relationship between steering and the screen. A turn that looked straightforward can become awkward as the angle shifts.

With loose cargo bouncing behind you, the cost extends beyond correcting the truck’s direction. You may have to stop, collect what fell out, and recover lost time. Route information creates another interruption: checking the map means entering a menu and switching screens, an unnecessarily cumbersome action for a game built around getting places.

Truckful Review

The early encounter with an aggressive truck exposes how these pressures can pile up. Escaping an attacker while recovering scattered packages demands confidence that the opening hours have scarcely allowed you to develop. The threat itself works, but the encounter asks you to learn too many responses under pursuit. Checkpoints soften destruction, and Story Mode relaxes some delivery restrictions, making it easier to concentrate on reaching the destination. Both help with the cost of failure. Neither makes a changing viewpoint easier to interpret during a hurried turn.

There is a good reason to persevere through that awkward introduction. The settlement sits beside woodland inhabited by a dark force that consumes vehicles, leaving wreckage where ordinary traffic should be. Rutti, encountered fleeing a Ghost Truck, becomes a recurring companion whose developing connection to the village and forest gives the mystery a personal thread. Carrying her in the truck bed keeps that relationship inside the delivery mechanics. The same space used for construction materials now holds someone whose place in the story is becoming increasingly important.

Dredge is a useful reference for the way practical work draws you into an unsettling community. Truckful’s strongest use of that approach is to let ordinary assistance provide access to the mystery. Main deliveries bring you back into contact with residents and move the narrative along; collectible lore offers further history without making every discovery compulsory reading. Brief conversations and exaggerated character designs keep these encounters light enough to fit between drives. The forest’s threat acquires weight through its proximity to people you are regularly helping.

Truckful Review

The presentation supports those shifts in tone. Bright countryside and rattling, cartoonish vehicles make routine travel inviting, while darker woodland reduces that sense of ease. Roaring engines turn the familiar sound of transport into a warning, and the hostile train makes even a tunnel shortcut threatening.

The horror is effective because an established task remains unfinished during the chase. A load that rewarded patient cornering a few minutes earlier suddenly has to survive an urgent escape. Camera problems become especially unwelcome here, since confusion about steering competes with the fear the pursuit is meant to create.

Upgrades offer several satisfying ways to improve that situation. Larger and enclosed beds change how much you can carry and how securely it sits, while Sticky Cargo temporarily holds items in place. Tires and suspension address the road itself. Traversal tools expand the role of customization further: a Winch helps with muddy obstacles, and a Snorkel permits passage through deep water. Returning with suitable equipment can make a previously blocked route usable, giving earnings a purpose beyond making the next delivery marginally easier.

The three tool slots introduce a less successful tradeoff. The Navigator competes with equipment needed to cross obstacles or protect cargo, so opening up the map can require giving up assistance in understanding it. Tools must be exchanged at garages, adding another trip when you discover that the current setup cannot handle a route. Limited equipment can encourage preparation, but the awkward map access makes this particular restriction tiring. The game asks you to plan around information that it makes inconvenient to consult.

Repeated travel magnifies the problem. Only one mission can be active at a time, limiting opportunities to combine errands along a route. Side jobs provide income after an unsuitable purchase, but use the same delivery structure. Tunnels shorten some trips, yet conventional fast travel is absent, and transitions between areas repeatedly interrupt the drive even when loading is brief. Later scrap collection connects upgrades to the wrecked vehicles scattered through the world, but adds another gathering demand to an activity already prone to repetition.

Deliveries that improve the settlement make better use of those return trips. Repairing roads or restoring the recycling station gives a job an effect that persists after payment, changing the place you have spent time learning. Garage visits and repeated loading transitions continue to consume time, but a repaired stretch of road offers a visible benefit each time you use it. On a later delivery, the pothole you helped fix is one fewer hazard to account for when arranging the load.

The Review

Truckful

7 Score

Truckful turns the satisfaction of spatial inventory puzzles into a delivery challenge where preparation has to survive the road. Its village mystery, recurring companions, and useful upgrades give those trips purpose. Shifting camera angles and awkward route information weaken the precision its missions demand, while garage backtracking wears down the appeal of exploration. The strongest deliveries leave a lasting change in the settlement, giving familiar roads a reason to be revisited.

PROS

  • Satisfying cargo arrangement that shapes driving decisions.
  • Engaging village mystery and recurring companions.
  • Upgrades that improve hauling and open routes.
  • Road repairs give deliveries lasting effects.
  • Cheerful scenery contrasts effectively with vehicular horror.

CONS

  • Camera changes disrupt steering orientation.
  • Buried map access and slotted navigation complicate planning.
  • Early pursuit overloads the learning process.
  • Repeated garage trips and area transitions slow progression.
