Sony Pictures has announced a new chapter in its Jumanji franchise will arrive in theaters on December 11, 2026. This release date comes nearly seven years after the studio’s previous Jumanji film and ends speculation about the future of the successful action-comedy series.
The as-yet untitled fourth Jumanji film is slated to reunite the franchise’s core cast members. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black are all expected to reprise their in-game avatar roles of teenagers transported into the magical video game world of Jumanji. Johnson, Hart, Gillan, and Black have anchored the modern Jumanji films since 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle revived the franchise for contemporary audiences.
Scheduling conflicts partly explain the extended gap between installments. Johnson has committed time to multiple major franchises like Fast & Furious and projects with Disney and DC. Gillan told one outlet “They’re so fun, and I really like Ruby Roundhouse. I can relate to feeling nerdy but playing an action hero.” Hart also recently shared that talks for the untitled Jumanji 4 are ongoing.
The 2019 film Jumanji: The Next Level ended with a bonus scene suggesting the magical world may intrude into reality. This potential storyline crossover could be further developed in the upcoming chapter. However, an overcrowded December 2026 will see it compete against two Avatar sequels, an unnamed Star Wars project, and possibly Denis Villeneuve’s anticipated Dune sequel.
Since 1995, the Jumanji films have proven their longevity by reinventing their board game roots for modern action-comedy. Fans eagerly await what new adventures the renowned cast will embark on when the fourth Jumanji resumes the franchise in theaters on December 11, 2026.
