The Callisto Protocol, a promising horror game developed overseen by Glen Schofield, is among the most awaited end-of-year releases.
The former developers of the Dead Space series gathered to present a completely new story, one which will take longer to explore than a number of the developers’ previous projects.
Striking Distance Studios was established by Glen Schofield, who had previously had a hand in developing the Dead Space series.
The adventure of Jacob Lee in the Black Iron prison is compared to the atmospheric horrors of Visceral Games, which nevertheless hardly seems that much of an abuse, since the upcoming story is in many ways similar to productions released by Electronic Arts.
In the latest issue of EDGE magazine a piece about the horror game was published, where the developers disclose an important detail about it: the story is expected to take about 12-14 hours to complete, but the gameplay can take even longer.
Glen Schofield also added that there are “beta paths” which will introduce elements of re-playability into the gameplay and enable you to explore more terrains:
“They appear later in the game, but some of them are so damn cool. We won’t tell you where they are or how many there are. But if you really explore them, you can play longer.”
The head of the studio highlighted that the extra paths will encourage players to talk and share insights about the attractions they have encountered, and this should also prompt them to go through the game again.
While 12-14 hours is a really good number for a horror game – it’s worth recalling that Dead Space (11 hours) and Dead Space 2 (9 hours) both offered shorter stories, and only the third installment in the series (12 hours) boasted a longer storyline.
