Hollywood icon Julia Roberts will receive an honorary award at the 50th César Awards ceremony on February 28 in Paris. The César Academy, France’s equivalent to the Academy Awards, chose Roberts to honor at their milestone event.
Over the past three decades, Roberts has captivated audiences worldwide with her diverse acting roles. Her breakthrough performance in 1990’s “Pretty Woman” launched her to international stardom. Since then, Roberts has demonstrated her versatility through parts in romantic comedies such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “Notting Hill.” She has also given powerful dramatic performances, such as in “The Pelican Brief” and “Erin Brockovich.” Roberts won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her leading role in “Erin Brockovich.”
The César Academy recognized Roberts’ influence extends beyond just her on-screen work. She is considered not only a renowned movie star but also a global cultural icon. Roberts has worked with many acclaimed directors throughout her career. Notable collaborations include the “Ocean’s” trilogy with Steven Soderbergh and “Closer” with Mike Nichols. These roles demonstrated Roberts’ ability to take on complex characters and work successfully with visionary filmmakers.
In addition to her acting talents, Roberts actively supports humanitarian causes as a UNICEF ambassador. She uses her public platform to bring attention to important philanthropic issues. Roberts’ most recent film is the upcoming thriller “After the Hunt,” directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film stars an impressive ensemble cast including Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.
Much like past honorary César recipients such as David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Cate Blanchett and George Clooney, Roberts has made lasting global contributions to the film industry. The award recognizes her significant artistic impact and serves to connect Hollywood with French cinema as the ceremony marks its 50-year milestone.
