Netflix is developing a second season of The Perfect Couple, shifting the murder-mystery drama into an anthology format. The follow-up season will be based on Swan Song, the 2024 novel by Elin Hilderbrand, with The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo adapting the book and serving as showrunner.
The first season, which premiered in September 2024, followed the wealthy Winbury family and concluded its story within six episodes. Despite being originally conceived as a limited series, The Perfect Couple became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows in the second half of the year. Sources indicate that the streamer plans to retain the Nantucket setting while introducing a new cast and centering on a different affluent family.
Swan Song follows Leslee and Bill Richardson, a couple who purchase a $22 million summer home on Nantucket. They host extravagant parties, charm locals, and flaunt their wealth with two yachts, raising expectations among the island’s residents. When their home burns down and a key employee vanishes, the community is left in turmoil.
Netflix has not officially commented on the project. However, in its semiannual data release in February, the streamer referred to The Perfect Couple as “season one” rather than a limited series, hinting at future installments.
Nicole Kidman, who starred in and executive produced the first season, will return as an executive producer alongside her Blossom Films partner Per Saari, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, season one director Susanne Bier, and Hend Baghdady. Jenna Lamia, who served as showrunner for the first season, will not return, with Calo taking over writing and showrunning duties for the second season.
