Data from the Korean Film Council’s Kobis tracking service revealed that Captain America: Brave New World earned KRW3.1 billion ($2.2 million), securing 44% of the market share. The film, starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, drew 316,146 viewers, bringing its total earnings to $9.2 million. Despite a strong performance, the film’s earnings saw a decline from its opening weekend.
In second place, Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning grossed $739,664, with 108,090 admissions. Directed by Kim Dong-chul, the film follows Father Park, an excommunicated priest who must protect a child with special powers from a corrupt master. The movie launched across 841 screens, capturing 14.65% of the weekend’s box office.
You Are the Apple of My Eye, a romantic drama remake, opened in third place with $435,276. Directed by Cho Young-myoung, the film tells the story of a group of students who fall for a popular classmate. The film drew 68,604 admissions, bringing its total earnings to $448,020.
Secret: Untold Melody, a musical romance that has been in theaters since January, held steady in fourth place, earning $239,067. The film has now grossed $5.2 million. In fifth place, Paddington in Peru opened with $216,432, capturing 4.28% of the market. The family film drew 34,804 admissions, bringing its total to $295,146.
Hitman 2 saw a slight dip in its performance, landing in sixth place with $203,070. The action-comedy sequel has now earned $16.6 million. The Supernatural Sweet Shop The Movie, a Japanese supernatural drama directed by Hideo Nakata, debuted in seventh place with $108,336 and 17,868 admissions, bringing its total to $152,860.
The Substance, a local drama, took eighth place with $120,610, and its cumulative earnings stand at $3.4 million. The Brutalist, an awards-season contender, earned $96,479, bringing its total earnings to $372,052. Closing the top 10, Detective Conan: The Fourteenth Target earned $69,019, with a total gross of $449,913.
