Amazon MGM Studios is moving ahead with a live‑action adaptation of the Wolfenstein video‑game series, hiring Station Eleven creator Patrick Somerville to write and run the show. The project surfaced Friday in a trade‑press report that Amazon later confirmed, though financial terms remained undisclosed.

Somerville will executive‑produce with Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, the team behind the streamer’s Fallout hit, extending their existing partnership with the platform.

Game‑side continuity comes from MachineGames director Jerk Gustafsson and Keyframe Films executive James Altman, both attached as executive producers. An official, tersely worded logline sets the tone: “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen”.

Wolfenstein first arrived with 1981’s Castle Wolfenstein and broke into pop culture via id Software’s 1992 Wolfenstein 3D, later rebooted by MachineGames in 2014’s The New Order. Recent titles such as 2019’s Youngblood and VR spin‑off Cyberpilot kept protagonist William “B.J.” Blazkowicz battling an occult‑tinged Nazi regime in an alternate timeline. The series is expected to draw on that premise, but Amazon is keeping narrative specifics under wraps.

Wolfenstein

Wolfenstein joins a growing parade of game adaptations at Prime Video: Fallout is already renewed through season three, while Mass Effect, God of War and Warhammer 40,000 remain in development.

Media analysts argue that well‑known gaming properties offer built‑in audiences at a moment when subscriber growth across streaming platforms is slowing. Still, earlier attempts to translate first‑person shooters have delivered uneven results, raising expectations for Somerville’s character‑centric approach.

Casting speculation has already begun online, though no formal talks have been acknowledged. Production schedules and a release window remain undisclosed as Amazon evaluates pilot material and overall slate timing. For now, the company is wagering that audiences—and advertisers—still relish seeing history’s darkest regime meet a violent, fictional downfall in prime time.
