The actor described feeling disconnected from the warrior’s motivations and said the experience “broke” her, leading to a stretch in which she “basically didn’t work” and questioned her abilities. The remarks, shared this week and highlighted by The Hollywood Reporter, quickly circulated among Star Wars fans.
Sackhoff said the downturn began after production wrapped on season three in 2022, adding that auditions felt brittle and that she turned to a new manager and, for the first time, an acting coach to rebuild her process. She cited a single Law & Order guest spot and voice roles during that period, underscoring how thin her on-camera slate became while confidence ebbed. Entertainment Weekly reported the same three-year lull and quoted Sackhoff’s admission that she “didn’t understand” Bo-Katan, even as she respected the character.
As context, Sackhoff originated Bo-Katan in The Clone Wars and Rebels before stepping into the armor in The Mandalorian’s second and third seasons, where Bo-Katan’s political storyline on Mandalore grew more central. Those years marked a leap in visibility for Sackhoff and the character, which she now says was emotionally complicated behind the scenes.
Looking ahead, Sackhoff is part of Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Carrie limited series for Prime Video, a project that reunites her with the filmmaker and signals a busy slate after the reset.
