Universal has shifted the release of the James Wan–produced horror feature “Other Mommy” from May 8, 2026 to October 9, 2026, positioning the film in the pre-Halloween corridor. The supernatural thriller is directed by Rob Savage and will open wide in the United States on the new date.
Developed by Atomic Monster with Blumhouse and Spin a Black Yarn, the film adapts Josh Malerman’s novel “Incidents Around the House,” with a screenplay by Nathan Elston. The story centers on a young girl, Bela, and a malevolent presence she calls “Other Mommy,” a premise aligned with Savage’s recent genre work and Malerman’s reputation in literary horror.
The cast is led by Jessica Chastain and Jay Duplass, with Arabella Olivia Clark as Bela and Dichen Lachman among the ensemble. Karen Allen, Sean Kaufman, and Adam Silver have also been attached during casting updates as the project moved through production.
No reason was given for the date change, but the new slot places the movie amid the fall horror marketplace. On its October weekend, “Other Mommy” is set to arrive alongside a major animated adventure while landing just ahead of a high-profile video-game adaptation, reflecting a competitive but seasonal frame that frequently supports genre titles.
