Anna and Kristoff will finally walk down the aisle in “Frozen 3,” and their wedding night gets interrupted almost immediately. Disney debuted the first footage from the long-awaited sequel Friday night at its Entertainment Showcase during D23, confirming the marriage fans have anticipated since concept art teased formal attire for the characters two years ago.
Kristen Bell took the stage to confirm what the costume reveals had hinted at: Anna is marrying her “mountain man,” Kristoff, voiced by Jonathan Groff. Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, described a story that pulls the sisters far from home, calling the new setting “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created.” The footage shown to the D23 crowd backed that up. It opened with the wedding, then cut to Elsa standing on a dock studying a mysterious stone. The stone triggers a portal into a snowy, unfamiliar dimension.
A second clip escalated things further. A snowflake morphs into a butterfly-like creature, drifts into the castle, and gets caught during the celebration just before the lights go dark and the wedding is disrupted. The characters end up trudging through an icy forest, where a new villain, a woman with short black hair and a dark cape, descends from a peak and declares, “The sisters of Arendelle, we finally meet.”
Olaf gets his own subplot. Josh Gad performed a song referencing Samantha, a callback to a joke from “Frozen II,” suggesting the snowman has a romantic interest this time around.
The sequel arrives November 24, 2027, after a delay from its original 2026 target. Gad said in 2025 that the extra time was deliberate, telling reporters the team wanted the film to be “worthy of the story” set up in 2013 rather than rushed out as a quick follow-up.
The franchise carries significant weight into this installment. The first two films combined for more than $2.7 billion worldwide and two Academy Awards. Disney has also confirmed a fourth film is already in production alongside the third, meaning the wait between sequels should shrink considerably compared to the six and eight years that separated earlier entries.
