The much-anticipated series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has made a monumental debut, garnering a staggering 13.3 million viewers within its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu.

This impressive viewership places the series among the top five most-watched season premieres of 2023 on both streaming platforms, a remarkable feat considering the competitive landscape of the streaming industry this year.

The adaptation of the beloved book series by Rick Riordan has evidently resonated with audiences, demonstrating a strong appeal that spans beyond its core demographic of middle graders. The viewership numbers are particularly notable given the series’ positioning alongside major titles on Disney+ and Hulu.

Disney+ saw the release of high-profile series such as “The Mandalorian” Season 3, “Loki” Season 2, “Ahsoka,” and “Secret Invasion,” while Hulu’s 2023 lineup included hits like “The Bear” Season 2 and the “Futurama” reboot, among others.

Comparatively, “Percy Jackson’s” 13.3 million viewers in six days is an impressive achievement. It stands shoulder-to-shoulder with other major Disney+ releases like “Ahsoka,” which attracted 14 million viewers in five days, and “Loki” Season 2, which had 10.9 million viewers in three days. This is especially noteworthy considering “Ahsoka” and “Loki” are part of well-established franchises with predominantly adult audiences, while “Percy Jackson” is launching a new franchise targeted at younger viewers.

A Milestone for Disney Branded Television

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” not only excels in the broader streaming landscape but also sets a new benchmark within Disney Branded Television itself. It has achieved the status of the most-watched premiere compared to six days of viewership for other titles from the studio unit, surpassing shows like “Goosebumps,” “Superkitties,” and “Bluey.”

This success is a testament to the show’s broad appeal, managing to captivate a diverse audience that includes both young viewers and adults who have grown up with or have an affinity for the book series.

The series has been crafted under the watchful eyes of creators Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, alongside a team of executive producers who bring a wealth of experience to the table.

The premiere of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” marks a significant moment for Disney+ and Hulu, as well as for Disney Branded Television. Its success lays a strong foundation for what Disney hopes to be a major screen franchise. With only the first episode contributing to these viewership figures (the second episode streams exclusively on Disney+), the series shows immense potential for sustained popularity and audience growth as the season progresses.
