Sony’s newly revealed live-service shooter Concord appears to be taking pricing cues from the runaway success of Helldivers 2 by launching at a relatively affordable $39.99 for the standard edition.
The anticipated 5v5 sci-fi shooter from debutant Sony studio FireWalk was recently listed on the Australian PlayStation Store with prices that line up with Helldivers 2’s budget-friendly model when converted to USD – $39.99 for the standard version and $59.99 for the Digital Deluxe edition.
While US pricing has not been officially confirmed, the leaked Australian listing provides the clearest indication yet that Concord will buck the $69.99 trend for premium titles on PlayStation 5. Instead, it seems to be replicating the strategic low pricing that helped propel Helldivers 2 to become Sony’s fastest-selling game of all time.
Helldivers 2 was a commercial juggernaut upon launch last year, with its appealing $39.99 entry fee and word-of-mouth buzz driving over 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks. Concord is clearly aiming to tap into that same upstart success with an accessible price point for its 16-character live-service model.
The standard $39.99 edition will grant full access to Concord’s multiplayer modes, maps, and roster of sci-fi hero characters at launch on August 23rd. Those who opt for the $59.99 Digital Deluxe version will receive bonuses like early access on August 20th, exclusive character skins, and bonus weapon cosmetics.
Preorders for either version will include early beta access currently scheduled for this July across PlayStation 5 and PC – Concord’s only two confirmed platforms so far.
While live-service games typically have a harder road to travel in terms of retaining an engaged audience post-launch, an agreeable $39.99 buy-in could go a long way in helping Concord make a strong first impression. Sony and FireWalk are clearly hoping an affordable entry mirroring Helldivers 2 can replicate even a fraction of that game’s explosive popularity.
More details on Concord’s multiplayer gameplay, character roles, and post-launch content pipeline are expected ahead of the August release. But unless plans change, it seems Sony is betting big on the power of a friendly price tag to move units for its first major live-service push since the Helldivers phenomenon.
