Daniel Craig in Talks for DC’s Sgt. Rock Adaptation

A-List Actor and Acclaimed Director Team Up for World War II Comic Book Hero Project

Daniel Craig is in early talks to feature in a big-screen adaptation of the legendary DC Comics character Sgt. Rock, with acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino potentially directing. The project is still in its early stages but has already attracted major attention in Hollywood.

Justin Kuritzkes, the screenwriter for “Challengers,” wrote the screenplay for this comic book adaptation. The film would reunite Craig and Guadagnino after their future collaboration on A24’s “Queer.”

Sgt. Rock, a World War II soldier character created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1959, has long captivated comic book readers. Previous attempts to film the character, including supposed projects with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, were unsuccessful.

The possible film comes at a crucial time for DC Studios. Co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are releasing their first slate of projects, which includes an animated series called “Creature Commandos” that will premiere on Max in December and a new Superman film.

Craig sees the project as another brave step forward in his career after his time as James Bond. He is presently rehearsing for the next Netflix film “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” and will appear in “Queer,” which will air later this month.

Guadagnino remains a highly sought-after filmmaker. He recently finished filming “After the Hunt,” a thriller that stars Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri. He is also working on a new rendition of Bret Easton Ellis’ “American Psycho” for Lionsgate.

While narrative elements are unknown, Craig’s commanding screen presence and Guadagnino’s subtle directorial style promise a fascinating take on the comic book hero.
