As previously reported, the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set to debut next month. However, this time Netflix officials have decided to reveal the exact release date of this highly anticipated title.
The platform has listed the date as September 13, and that is when we will have the chance to jump into the cyberpunk world from Studio Trigger.
The series is a 10-episode story of a street kid struggling to survive in Night City – a city of the future gripped by an obsession with technology and body modification. Just to survive, he places everything on one card and decides to become an edgerunner, i.e. one of the illegal mercenaries known as cyberpunks.
CD PROJEKT RED, the company behind the “Cyberpunk 2077” game, has produced the series. Rafal Jaki (“The Witcher 3: Wild Gon,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” “The Witcher: Ronin”) is the showrunner and executive producer, assisted by Satoru Homma, Bartosz Sztybor and Saya Elder as producers.
The team of the CD PROJEKT RED studio has already been working on the series since 2018. Development of the anime series is being managed by the esteemed Japanese company Studio Trigger, who will bring the world of Cyberpunk to the screen, giving it their distinctive, dynamic style.
Hiroyuki Imaishi (“Gurren Lagann,” “Kill la Kill,” “Promare”) will be directing the series. Hiromi Wakabayashi (“Kill la Kill”) is the creative director, animation director Yoh Yoshinari (“Little Witch Academia,” “BNA: Brand New Animal”) is responsible for the character design.
Yoshiki Usa (the “GRIDMAN UNIVERSE” series, “Promare”) and Masahiko Otsuka (“Star Wars: Visions” – episode “The Old Man”) are in charge of the adapted script. Akira Yamaoka (known for his music for games and films in the “Silent Hill” series) will create the soundtrack for the series.
The premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix will take place on September 13, 2022.
