Bella Ramsey will be playing the role of Ellie in the forthcoming adaptation of The Last of Us which is being developed by HBO.
Apparently, the show’s producers have recommended the actress not to play the series from Naughty Dog.
They gave the advice right after she was auditioned for the role, before Ramsey had even officially joined the cast.
They actually advised me not to do it [not to play the game]. After I auditioned for the first time, they asked me: “Did you play the game?” and I said “No,” to which they said “Keep it that way.” the actress said in an interview with USA Today.
I saw some gameplay on YouTube to get an idea of what it was all about,” Ramsey adds. – But I’m very excited to see it come out. It’s been such a big part of my life. We shot for a whole year, which is quite a long time when you only lived for 19 years.
Pedro [Pascal, Joel in the series] wrote me a little card at the end, saying: “How interesting that something so huge and life-changing happened so early in your life and so late in mine.” I actually found it a nice thinking.
And why did the show’s producers have discouraged Bella Ramsey from trying her hand at games? Of course, so that she wouldn’t be impressed by the performances of Ashley Johnson, who lent her voice and motion to the girl in both parts – thanks to motion capture technology.
While the series directly recreates some scenes from the game, including dialogues, the creators are surely keen that the production is not just a copy of the original, but rather its interpretation – including acting.
The Last of Us series will debut in 2023. So what do you think about this series? Could it prove to be a success for HBO? Let us know in the comments section below.
