Spoilers ahead.
“Ted Lasso” closed its fourth season Wednesday with a funeral, a failed power grab and a quiet job change, leaving AFC Richmond’s women’s team in new hands and Ted Lasso standing in a smaller role than before.
The finale, titled “Being Alive,” opens with the club mourning Mae, who died watching the Lady Greyhounds play Bristol City. Her death drives the episode. Ted’s son, Henry, asks how his own grandfather died, and Ted first hides the truth, a lie fans know covers a suicide. He reverses course before the credits, and the honesty draws father and son closer.
Mae also decides the ownership fight. Zelda, the shareholder secretly buying up Richmond stock all season, appears at the shareholder meeting and reveals herself. Rebecca and Higgins had seen the move coming, and Hugo Riddles switched sides. Mae’s 2% stake closes the matter. Reports say it leaves Zelda holding shares with no real influence over the club.
Roy Kent learns Keeley is pregnant and receives an offer to coach Chelsea. He accepts, but refuses to leave until Richmond finishes the season. He packs his office and finds a note from Ted promising he will make a great father, tucked beside one of Ted’s little green army men.
On the pitch, the leadership shifts. Ted asks to step aside, handing the head coaching job to Alice Chilton. He and Beard become her assistants, and Ted gives Alice the farewell gift he had withdrawn earlier in the season. Keeley’s marketing campaign fills Nelson Road for the women’s last match, held in Mae’s memory. The final score stays off screen, and the episode ends with 112 days until the next campaign.
Rebecca has her own news. She proposes to her boyfriend, Matthijs, who answers by kneeling too. Ted then asks to talk about the vacancy Roy leaves behind, and Rebecca does not reply, which leaves open whether he will manage the men’s side.
Apple TV has not announced a fifth season.
