Blizzard Entertainment detailed the content that Overwatch 2 will receive with the start of Season 2, which launches on December 6.
The two major new additions are Ramattra, which is a new hero that plays the role of a tank, as well as a new Escort map called Shambali Monastery.
Season 2’s arrival will also be used by the company to introduce balance adjustments aimed at “bringing some heroes up to par with the rest of the squad members.”
Ramattra is the first transformable tank we’re incorporating into Overwatch 2, which means he can switch between forms. The original, mind you, is Omnic Form,” Blizzard explains. When in omnic form, Ramattra uses a vacuum accelerator as a weapon, a massive staff with its own primary and secondary triggers.
Due to its skill set, that form is ideal for closing the distance to the enemy team, while nemesis form, granting two new abilities accompanied by a change in appearance and weapon, turns Ramattra into a tank with additional armor.
“Ramattra’s complex and versatile play style matches his background and ideals,” Blizzard comments. “The Omnic Form is very strategic and hints at this character’s resourceful mind. The Nemesis Form is huge, imposing and violent – a physical manifestation of his rage.”
To those interested in balance tweaks, Blizzard acknowledged that stats and player feedback show that “Sojourn is dominating at higher competitive levels, but still poses a challenge for players without the same mechanical qualities.”
In order to address this, the dev team will be focusing on the lethality of its ranged rail gun heading into Season 2, so it will encourage players to take advantage of Sojourn’s great mobility to cut down distances and activate the right button.
“Doomfist is going to receive major changes that support his role as the vanguard of the team, but retain his core playstyle and identity,” Blizzard adds.
“Also receiving changes will be Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy and Symmetra […].” Details will be known at a later date.
Season 2 will also see the return of the Rialto and Blizzard World maps. The players will also play games in Oasis and Nepal at different times of the day, as well as Hollywood and Observatory: Gibraltar from the set.
Lastly, Overwatch 2 season 2’s theme revolves around Greek mythology, which will be noticeable in the customization and cosmetic items that will be provided through the battle pass.
