Season three of The Mandalorian, a part of the Star Wars universe, left a lasting impact on fans with many memorable moments. Among them, Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, portrayed by Ahmed Best, stood out. The question remains: will Best, through his riveting portrayal of Beq, create more memorable scenes in the series’ future?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, the creative minds behind The Mandalorian, hinted at the “always a possibility” of Ahmed Best reprising his role as the beloved Jedi Master on screen.
“Ahmed did a fantastic job, and we were thrilled to have him on board. The potential for his return is always there,” Filoni confirmed.
Echoing Filoni’s sentiment, Favreau expressed, “The character is a fan-favorite. There’s a curiosity about him that we’d love to explore further.” Warning: Spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 3 Ahead.
Kelleran Beq’s Return: A Journey through Star Wars Lore
Best made his glorious return to the Star Wars Universe in The Mandalorian’s third season, where he embodied the courageous Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. His pivotal role involved the daring rescue of Grogu during the infamous Order 66, enacted at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
Interestingly, Best’s portrayal of Beq was not his first. The character initially appeared in the children’s contest series, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. Favreau elaborated on this transition from a non-canonical character to a series regular alongside Mando and Grogu.
“With Ahmed, we’ve put a significant amount of work into the character of Kelleran Beq for Jedi Temple Challenge. He has been intertwined with Star Wars throughout,” Favreau shared. “We always look for inspiration across the entirety of Star Wars, even non-canonical elements. If it feels right, we incorporate it. Now, Kelleran Beq exists firmly within the Star Wars canon.”
The inclusion of Best in The Mandalorian was warmly received by fans, marking a personal redemption for the actor, who previously faced criticism for his role as Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy. Best has expressed his enthusiasm for his revitalized role in The Mandalorian, revealing the opportunity as a meaningful one in his career.
