Blindflug Studios, a Swiss-Polish game development company, has unveiled its latest project, Ground of Aces—a WWII base building game for PC, with a scheduled release in 2024. To support the game’s development, a Kickstarter campaign has been initiated, which can be accessed here.

Building and Managing a WWII Airbase

In Ground of Aces, players are given the opportunity to construct and oversee a WWII airbase, inhabited by a diverse group of pilots and crew members.

The game offers an endless free build mode, as well as Theater of War Campaigns, which enable players to delve into WWII history, exploring the challenges faced by airbases and their personnel, such as the events surrounding the Battle of Britain.

Ground of Aces draws inspiration from base builder games like Rimworld and Going Medieval, and historical strategy games such as Hearts of Iron IV.

The game’s graphical style pays homage to the “ligne claire” style of Franco-Belgian comics, including Biggles and Buck Danny.

Key Features of Ground of Aces

A Base Builder at Its Core: Players can design their own unique and individual bases, serving as a personal haven for planes and crew members.

Personal Stories of Your Crew: The inhabitants of the base are not merely resources, but individuals shaped by war. Each character has their own personality and unique story, allowing players to connect with them and feel the impact of their losses.

A Treat for Aviation Enthusiasts: As the campaign progresses, players will gain access to historically significant aircraft, complete with upgradeable parts and customizable visual styles.

Immerse Yourself in WWII: Experience the battles of WWII through the eyes of your airbase crew. Prepare for missions, send out pilots, and brace for enemy attacks.

Blindflug Studios co-founder and Executive Producer, Moritz Zumbühl, has been developing the concept for Ground of Aces for several years.

He says, “As a huge fan of history, aviation, and base building, I’ve noticed a lack of games focusing on WWII airbases. My team and I want to fill this gap. We’re very excited to finally share this passion project with the gaming community and WWII history buffs.”
