Rockstar Games has unveiled the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, responding to a recent leak and setting the stage for what the company describes as the “biggest, most immersive” iteration in the series. The announcement promises a groundbreaking experience in the open-world crime sandbox genre.
Grand Theft Auto VI marks a return to the iconic Vice City, a location inspired by Miami, which fans last explored in the 2002 release of GTA: Vice City. However, unlike its predecessor set in 1986, GTA 6 will present Vice City in a contemporary setting.
This modern take on the city is a significant departure from the 3D-era setting, as Vice City becomes the last of these classic locations to be re-envisioned for the HD-era of gaming.
Expanding the Sandbox: Beyond the City Limits
In terms of scale, Rockstar seems to be continuing the trend set by Grand Theft Auto V. The 2013 title featured a vastly expanded rendition of Los Santos, one of the three major cities from the San Andreas map, with meticulous detail and a far larger scale.
GTA 6 is expected to do the same for Vice City. The trailer teases this expansion, hinting at a map that stretches beyond the city’s boundaries into an Everglades-like swampland, promising a more extensive exploration experience.
