The seventh film in the series hit a stumbling block following the departures of key cast members Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, along with the absence of a director after Christopher Landon’s exit. These setbacks have left the future of the franchise uncertain.
Campbell, who has been synonymous with the series since its debut, playing the role of Sidney Prescott, did not appear in the sixth movie due to a pay dispute. Her last appearance was in the 2022 fifth installment of “Scream.” This gap in her participation marks a significant change for the franchise, given her central role in its success.
Campbell’s Conditions for Return
In a recent red carpet interview with IndieWire at the BAFTA Tea event in Los Angeles, Campbell discussed the current state of the ‘Scream’ franchise. She expressed her sadness over the challenges it’s facing and her hope that those in charge would make the right decisions for its future.
When asked about the possibility of rejoining the franchise, Campbell indicated her openness but underlined that it would depend on the “right circumstances.”
She referenced a statement made years ago, where she highlighted the unequal treatment she believes she received compared to how a man leading a franchise for over two decades might be treated.
Campbell emphasized that her stance on this issue remains unchanged and that any potential return would hinge on acknowledgment and rectification of this disparity.
