In a surprising turn of events, Antonio Banderas’ 2017 action thriller “Security” has found a new lease on life, unexpectedly climbing Netflix’s global charts and captivating audiences worldwide. The movie, which had a relatively muted reception during its initial release, is now emerging as an unlikely streaming sensation, reminding viewers of the enduring appeal of unassuming action flicks on platforms like Netflix.

According to data from streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol, “Security” has been steadily rising in popularity across multiple countries, even breaking into the top 10 most-watched films in several regions. In “Security,” Banderas portrays Eddie Deacon, a former Marine Corps veteran who takes a job as a security guard at a shopping mall. When a distraught girl seeks refuge at the mall, Banderas’ character finds himself embroiled in a hostage situation, forced to confront a gang of kidnappers led by the villainous Charlie, played by Ben Kingsley.

While the film’s premise might appear formulaic, the enduring appeal of action thrillers, coupled with Banderas’ star power, seems to have resonated with Netflix’s global audience.
