Apple TV+ is telling a unique story with its new series Sunny. Actress Rashida Jones leads the show as it mixes elements of drama, mystery and even comedy set in the future.
Jones plays Susie, a widow coping with her husband’s sudden passing. But she discovers he had secrets that make her question who he really was. Sunny is a robot he created that’s supposed to help Susie find answers.
The interesting part is Sunny, played by a real human. And the near-future setting in Japan. Jones says Sunny is like a “dark, humorous fairy tale” where Susie forms an unexpected bond with the robot. Together they try to solve the mystery of Susie’s late husband.
It’s not your average detective story since it blends genres. Jones is known for comedic roles but gets to show her dramatic chops too. And the futuristic elements add an extra layer of intrigue.
