Disney has announced plans for more Simpsons content on Disney+, its streaming platform. The animated series’ 35th season will premiere on October 2, 2024 with all 18 episodes available to stream. Disney+ subscribers will also get access to four new, never-before-seen Simpsons episodes produced exclusively for the service.
The exclusive episodes are titled “The Past and the Furious,” “Yellow Planet,” and a Christmas-themed two-parter called “O C’mon All Ye Faithful.” This marks the first time the long-running series has made full episodes specifically for a streaming platform. The Christmas special’s December 17, 2024 premiere coincides with the original Christmas episode’s 35th anniversary, honoring the show’s history.
Disney also plans to debut an original Halloween-themed Simpsons short on Disney+ in October. This expands the franchise’s streaming presence beyond regular seasons. The announcement came at a “The Simpsons” panel featuring creator Matt Groening and others involved in the series.
By developing unique content for Disney+, the company can leverage the Simpsons brand while navigating rights issues involving recent broadcast episodes. Streaming services often maximize properties’ value through service-exclusive content.
Fans now have more options to enjoy Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie’s adventures. In addition to all 35 seasons and movies, Disney+ houses the Simpsons collection with over ten shorts. Disney’s move demonstrates a commitment to keeping the iconic series fresh and accessible both to longtime and new viewers.
