Disneyland has revealed plans for an upcoming attraction inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. The new addition will be based on the underwater worlds shown in Avatar: The Way of Water and future films. Disney officials said the ride will give visitors an unprecedented experience on Pandora, the moon where much of the Avatar story takes place.
Ali Rubin, an imagineer who designs Disney park attractions, showed concept art at the D23 Expo event. She said the attraction will transport guests to the “wide-open seas” of Pandora. Riders will be able to explore Pandora’s ecosystems and discover the beauty and danger of the alien ocean environment.

James Cameron, director of Avatar, also spoke at D23 and discussed the upcoming third movie. Avatar: Fire and Ash will continue expanding the stories and cultures seen on Pandora when it’s released in late 2025.
The original 2009 Avatar is still the highest-grossing film of all time globally with $2.9 billion in ticket sales. Its sequel released in 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water, placed third on the list with $2.3 billion earned worldwide.
With the continuing success of the franchise, this new Disneyland attraction signifies the company’s major commitment to bringing the vivid world of Pandora to theme park visitors. Fans will soon have an immersive way to experience Pandora’s oceans like never before through this cutting-edge expansion coming to Disneyland.
