Jonathan Bailey will reprise his role as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the upcoming fourth season of the popular Netflix series “Bridgerton.” However, Bailey hinted that fans may see less of Anthony than in past seasons.
In a recent interview, Bailey said he is only scheduled to film for a few weeks during production of Season 4. This short filming window led to speculation about how large of a part Anthony will play in the new season’s storyline.
“As the oldest sibling, I’ll be around to support the younger Bridgertons,” Bailey stated, implying Anthony may have a supporting rather than leading role. This aligns with the show’s pattern of focusing each season on a different family member’s love story.
Season 4 will feature the romance of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. Bailey said he is excited to see Benedict’s journey unfold, describing his co-star’s character as “full of joy and wonder” and “the heart of the family.”
The new season introduces Sophie Beckett, a “captivating lady in silver,” as a love interest for Benedict. Her character is expected to challenge Benedict’s reluctance to settle down.
While Anthony’s role may be reduced, Bailey’s return continues the viscount’s story from past seasons. Fans last saw Anthony and his wife Kate, played by Simone Ashley, departing for India following the events of Season 3.
Bailey is taking on several new projects, including an Emmy-nominated role on Showtime’s “Fellow Travelers” and an upcoming part in the film version of “Wicked.” However, he said he looks forward to reading future “Bridgerton” scripts, showing his commitment to the series remains strong.
“Bridgerton” has centered each season on a different sibling, with characters like Daphne diminishing in relevance afterwards. Still, as head of the Bridgerton household, Anthony’s presence seems assured going forward even if in a supporting function. Fans will have to wait for more details on how the new romance threads through existing stories like Anthony and Kate’s marriage. With Bailey confirmed to return, viewers can at least look forward to the charming viscount joining past and present storylines in the Bridgerton family’s continuing drama.
