He said revealing too many details about the Smiler’s origins could diminish its frightening effect on audiences.
Finn also explained how the Smiler adapts uniquely to each person it torments. This allows the films to explore different psychological aspects of their main characters’ trauma. In “Smile 2,” the Smiler preys upon pop star Skye Riley’s insecurities and mental state. Naomi Scott’s performance as Riley showed her capability to portray both a famous celebrity and a person spiraling into darkness, according to Finn.
“Smile 2” has exceeded the commercial and critical success of the first film from 2022. It remains on track to beat the original’s $22.6 million opening weekend total.
