Marvel actor Paul Bettany confirmed that production on a new Disney+ series focusing on his character Vision will begin next year. Bettany, who spoke at a recent premiere for his new film “Here,” expressed enthusiasm about returning to the role of the android Vision. While remaining tight-lipped on specifics, Bettany said the project will start filming in 2023 with plans to premiere in 2026 on Disney’s streaming service.
Best known for portraying Vision in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the hit series “WandaVision,” Bettany will reprise his role as the enigmatic android created by Ultron. In an unexpected return, James Spader will also reprise his role as Ultron, the artificial intelligence that first posed a threat against humanity in “Age of Ultron.” “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas will oversee the new Vision series.
At the premiere, Bettany commented fondly on the recent “WandaVision” spinoff series “Agatha: House of Harkness,” noting showrunner Jac Schaeffer’s strong work expanding that Marvel world. He looks forward to deepening his understanding of Vision’s character and continuing the storylines set up in prior projects. The actor also briefly discussed Vision’s evolution throughout his appearances in films like “Infinity War,” where Thanos destroyed him, and how the character was later resurrected in “WandaVision.”
For now, fans can see Bettany in the new film “Here” alongside stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Shot entirely within a single location like a stage play, the movie follows multiple generations of one family across decades. Bettany enjoyed taking on the role of Hanks’ father in the innovative feature.
