Margaret Qualley will lead Honey Don’t!, the second film in Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke’s ongoing lesbian B-movie series. Following her role in Drive-Away Dolls, Qualley now plays a private investigator named Honey, who is drawn into a case involving a questionable church leader.
In an interview with i-D, Qualley described Honey as someone who operates with precision and control. “I tend to want to diffuse things before they even happen,” she said. “Honey, she’s like honey — she’s skillful, she’s smooth, she is slipping in and out undetected.” She added that she had to resist her “natural Scooby-Doo” tendencies for the role.
Aubrey Plaza appears in the film as a mysterious woman connected to the case, while Chris Evans plays Priest Dean, the head of the church under investigation. The cast also includes Billy Eichner, Charlie Day, and Gabby Beans.
Qualley praised the filmmaking duo, saying their process has been unlike others she has worked with. “They respect and love each other so much. I love the world that they’re living in,” she said.
Honey Don’t! continues Coen and Cooke’s thematic series that began with Drive-Away Dolls, released in early 2024. While a third installment has been discussed, Qualley said she has not been approached about it. “Let the record show that if I’m not in [the third film], I will be offended and I will be upset,” she said.
