Mayim Bialik Says Blossom Revival Is Off After Rights Holder Declines

Bialik says a leadership change derailed the planned return and that a request to shop the series elsewhere was denied.

Mayim Bialik says the long-gestating effort to revive Blossom is no longer moving forward after the rights holder declined to proceed, ending a two-year push she led with original creator Don Reo. In a new post, she writes that executives initially showed interest but a change in oversight stalled the project before it was rejected, adding that she and Reo asked to license the property elsewhere and were turned down. She characterized the decision as “for no particular reason” and said the studio told her it wished to retain the rights should it pursue its own iteration.

Bialik had been publicly developing a return since 2023, first noting that the full ensemble was willing to participate and later floating a tonal shift away from multi-camera comedy toward a more dramatic approach. Those early comments framed the revival as a way to revisit characters who, in the original series, confronted issues such as divorce, addiction, and recovery from an adult vantage point.

The actress also suggested the experience has dimmed her interest in on-camera work for now, saying the drawn-out process and industry churn drained momentum. The company at the center of the decision has not commented.

The original NBC run (1990–95) made Bialik a household name and featured Joey Lawrence, Jenna von Oÿ, Michael Stoyanov, and Ted Wass. Episodes are presently absent from major subscription streamers in the U.S.; viewers can purchase the series on digital storefronts. The lack of broad streaming availability has complicated nostalgia-driven discovery that often helps power legacy reboots.

The outcome underscores how ownership and corporate priorities shape revival prospects. The series originated at a Disney television unit, and Bialik’s account points to shifting leadership and elongated deal cycles as key factors. She closed her note by thanking fans and leaving open the possibility that circumstances could change, but said the project she most wanted to make is, for now, off the table.
