Isabela Ferrer, who played the younger version of Lily Bloom in last year’s It Ends With Us, has asked a judge to reject a subpoena effort by director and co-star Justin Baldoni and to sanction him, alleging his latest motion is a pressure tactic that amounts to harassment. In an Aug. 17 filing, Ferrer’s lawyers argue Baldoni sought “alternative service” after claiming she was unresponsive and issued a demand that largely mirrors a February subpoena she already received from another party in the case.
They also say the subpoena risks exposing her private home address and that Baldoni’s company declined to cover her legal costs unless she ceded control of her response—a condition her team characterizes as improper.
The dispute stems from ongoing litigation connected to the production and release of the film. Ferrer says she was pulled in after the earlier subpoena and then turned to an indemnity clause in her acting agreement to request reimbursement for counsel, which, according to her filing, was not provided without strings attached. Baldoni’s Aug. 12 motion portrays Ferrer as unreachable and asks the court to authorize alternate delivery of his subpoena; Ferrer’s latest brief asks the court to deny that request and award fees.
The larger case has been building for months. A civil complaint filed last winter accused Baldoni and affiliated parties of sexual harassment and retaliation tied to the film; he has denied the allegations. In June, a federal judge dismissed a separate $400 million countersuit Baldoni brought against multiple defendants while allowing limited contract-related amendments, and recent filings set a March 2026 trial window for the harassment and retaliation claims. A partial deposition transcript made public last week underscored how combative the discovery phase has become, with both sides accusing the other of bad-faith tactics.
Ferrer’s brief adds another thread to a high-profile fight that has already drawn in numerous third parties through records requests. Her attorneys say she wants to avoid deeper involvement and is seeking only to protect her privacy and recover costs incurred by being subpoenaed; Baldoni’s team has previously said they intend to obtain and release evidence they argue will counter the claims against him.
