Mike Smith, the actor who has played Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys since its debut, has been charged with sexual assault in Nova Scotia and has stepped away from duties at the company behind the franchise. Court filings indicate the charge was laid on October 2, 2025, in relation to an alleged incident in Dartmouth on December 30, 2017; a publication ban restricts identifying information about the complainant. Smith has been ordered not to contact the complainant as the matter proceeds.
Trailer Park Boys Inc. said it is aware of the allegation and, out of respect for the legal process, will not comment further. The company confirmed that Smith has stepped away from his role as managing director and that producer Gary Howsam has taken on those responsibilities. Smith’s representatives have not issued a public statement beyond the company’s notice.
The charge arrives shortly after the series completed filming its thirteenth season in Nova Scotia in August, with a rollout targeted for 2026. Producers previously announced a 10-episode season and a return tied to the show’s 25th anniversary window. The company has not signaled changes to the season’s release plans in light of the case.
Records reviewed by Canadian outlets list Smith’s first court appearance for November 10, 2025. Authorities and prosecutors say the case documents contain limited detail, and the publication ban is standard to protect the complainant’s identity. Conditions attached to Smith’s release include no contact and restrictions related to the complainant’s home, school, or workplace.
Smith has faced past legal scrutiny: in 2016 he was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor domestic battery allegation; prosecutors later declined to pursue the case, citing insufficient evidence. The present charge is unrelated and will be adjudicated under Canadian law.
