Warner Bros. has shifted Clayface off its early-September slot and into the heart of Halloween season, moving the DC Studios title from Sept. 11 to Oct. 23, 2026. The date swap also clears Sept. 11 for the studio’s untitled Practical Magic 2, which slides into the vacated frame.
The move positions Clayface as a fall genre play rather than a standard comic-book release. The film is directed by James Watkins from a screenplay credited to Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, and it stars Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan.
The calendar shuffle ripples beyond DC. The Oct. 23 corridor had been held by Remain, the M. Night Shyamalan project co-written as a novel idea with Nicholas Sparks and starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor; Warner Bros. has now moved it to Feb. 5, 2027, citing a romance-driven release strategy tied to audience interest in Wuthering Heights.
For DC, the timing also fits the studio’s stated aim to treat Clayface as horror-forward. Co-chief James Gunn has previously pushed back on casting noise around the project, calling one widely circulated report “100% false,” a sign the film’s rollout will run on studio-controlled beats rather than rumor cycles.
