Dominic Monaghan will reunite with his “Lord of the Rings” co-star Elijah Wood at CCXP26, the annual fan convention in São Paulo, Brazil, organizers announced this week. Monaghan’s appearance marks the second confirmed guest tied to the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration, following an earlier announcement that Wood would headline this year’s event.
The convention, built around the theme “Fellowship Forever,” runs December 3 through 6. Monaghan, who played Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck in Peter Jackson’s 2001 film “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” previously attended CCXP last year, where he took part in panel discussions and met fans for autographs and photos. Organizers have not yet released the full roster of guests scheduled for this year’s lineup.
“The Fellowship of the Ring” opened in theaters on December 19, 2001, launching a trilogy that also starred Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean. Beyond his work in Middle-earth, Monaghan built a following for playing Charlie Pace on the television series “Lost” and has appeared in the “Star Wars” and “X-Men” franchises. Wood, who was 20 years old when he took on the role of Frodo Baggins, has since built a varied career spanning films such as “Sin City” and “Happy Feet” alongside television roles in “Wilfred” and “Yellowjackets.”
CCXP has increasingly drawn major Hollywood talent in recent years, with last year’s edition producing a viral moment when Timothée Chalamet danced to Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” while promoting “Marty Supreme.” The 2025 event also featured a “Supernatural” cast reunion and appearances tied to projects including “It: Welcome to Derry,” “The Boys” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”
Monaghan has remained close with his former castmates in the years since filming wrapped, recently revealing that he, Wood, Astin and Boyd still maintain a group chat dedicated specifically to the trilogy’s four hobbit actors.
