Peacock has ordered a three-part documentary examining the career of Wendy Williams and the run of her long-running daytime talk show, with the streamer setting a 2027 premiere for the project, currently titled “Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show.” Unlike prior documentaries built around her health struggles and legal guardianship, this series centers on her ascent from radio personality to one of daytime television’s most recognizable figures.
Suzanne Bass, who served as executive producer of “The Wendy Williams Show” for its entire 13-season run, will hold the same title on the new documentary, lending firsthand knowledge of the program’s cultural footprint. More than 20 former staffers from the show will also appear, offering behind-the-scenes accounts of working alongside Williams during its run. The series is being produced by EverWonder Studio, with Ian Orefice, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain and Missy Walker serving as additional executive producers alongside Chris Witherspoon and Vanessa Golembewski.
“The Wendy Williams Show” launched in 2008 and became known for blending celebrity gossip with sharper commentary, earning eleven Daytime Emmy nominations and a Creative Arts Emmy win over its run. The show ended in June 2022 after Williams was absent for its final season, with guest hosts filling in following a positive Covid-19 test and complications tied to Graves’ disease that had already sidelined her intermittently. Williams was later diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2024 and has remained under a court-appointed guardianship, an arrangement she has publicly disputed.
Peacock’s announcement indicates the new series will trace Williams’ path from her early radio career through the show’s rise and eventual conclusion, while also addressing what the streamer describes as the complicated realities behind her fame. Williams herself is not participating in the project, and the streamer has not set a specific release date beyond confirming a 2027 window.
