A documentary chronicling Lisa’s first year away from Blackpink will reach global audiences this fall, with Sony Music Vision confirming Wednesday that “Always Lalisa” opens in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on Oct. 12 before moving to YouTube Premium later in the year.
Directed by Sue Kim, whose Apple TV+ documentary “The Last of the Sea Women” earned an Oscar nomination, the 97-minute film follows the Thai-born singer as she steps back from her group to build a solo career. It captures the making of her debut album, “Alter Ego,” which reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200, alongside her acting debut on HBO’s “The White Lotus.” Kim has said she spent a year alongside Lisa during production and that the film reveals sides of her life fans have not previously seen, including reconnecting with childhood friends who appear on camera.
Trafalgar Releasing will handle the limited theatrical run, with tickets going on sale Sept. 9. YouTube will later stream the film exclusively, a deal that YouTube’s global head of music, Lyor Cohen, framed as an extension of the platform’s close relationship with Lisa’s fan base. The documentary will have its world premiere in the gala program at the Toronto International Film Festival this month, produced by Sony Music Vision alongside RCA Records, Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions and LLOUD, the company Lisa founded after leaving her longtime label.
The release lands during an unusually active stretch for the performer. Lisa opened the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Anitta and Rema, becoming the first Thai and female K-pop artist to headline that stage, and sat on the Met Gala host committee as the first K-pop artist in that role. She is set to launch a Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace in November and release a new EP, “Press Play,” on Oct. 23. Beyond music, she has two Netflix projects in development, including a starring and executive-producing role in the action film “Tygo” and an untitled romantic comedy, extending a run that already spans fashion campaigns for Celine, Bulgari and Louis Vuitton.
