Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and Spin Master have greenlit a fourth “Paw Patrol” feature for release in 2029, Deadline reported. Cal Brunker, who has directed all three previous films, returns to direct and co-write alongside Bob Barlen. Spin Master will produce.
The decision follows a solid summer for the preschool franchise. “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” grossed $160.9 million worldwide after its August theatrical run. That lifts the combined take of the three films to $510 million. The pups, however, earn their real money on store shelves. Retail sales of Paw Patrol products have reached $18 billion since the series debuted on Nick Jr. in 2013, a total that includes merchandise sold through Skydance Products & Publishing and Spin Master.
Vishnu Athreya, president of Spin Master Entertainment, said the company is investing to give fans “more of what they love.” He described plans to widen the franchise with films, series, specials, short-form video and connected play. Jennifer Dodge, who runs Paramount Animation and previously led Spin Master’s entertainment division, said families hold a special place for the pups, and that the studio wants to keep their adventures on the big screen. Brunker said the audience response to the films has astonished him.
The sequel continues a steady release pattern. The first film arrived in August 2021 in theaters and on Paramount+ on the same day. “The Mighty Movie” followed in September 2023, and Paramount announced the third installment before that film even opened. “The Dino Movie,” in which the pups crash-land on a dinosaur island and meet a dino-expert pup named Rex, reaches Paramount+ on Nov. 12. The service will also carry the earlier films and the original series.
Plot details, voice cast and a release date within 2029 for the fourth film have not been announced. Skydance now sits behind both the studio and the merchandise operation, which gives the franchise a rare mix of theatrical, streaming and retail channels under related ownership.
