Diablo 4 Battles Are Going To Be More Tactical, Developers Promise

Diablo 4’s combat system – while similar to the previous installment’s solutions – will demand the player less of dexterity and more of tactical skills.

According to Rod Fergusson – the game’s producer – battles in the new Diablo are expected to be more “down-to-earth.” In contrast to the older parts, the world portrayed is not going to be reminiscent of the “high fantasy” genre, therefore the clashes should be “toned down” accordingly.

And as we find out from an interview with the IGN website, “the player is going to have more control over the battles, and the battlefields will become clearer.”

– If you’re not able to see what you’re doing or what your opponents are doing, it’s hard to feel like you’re making important decisions in that situation,” said Joe Shely, the game’s director. – Diablo is a power fantasy. Therefore, if the combat is too slow and complicated, it gives the impression of endless life bar collecting. If, on the other hand, it’s too fast, everything seems to be made of paper, and our skills mean little then. It’s important to find the right golden mean,” Fergusson added.

Incidentally, the developers indicated that beta testing, which started in September, had a big role in the development of the new combat system.

While the official release date of the game still is a mystery, there are rumors on the web that the title is due to debut as early as spring 2023. As Windows Central reports, the production is expected to be announced on December 8, during The Game Awards event.
