With an impressive 68 million views just four days after its December 26 premiere, Netflix’s eagerly anticipated second season of Squid Game has set new streaming records. This amazing accomplishment beats the previous record for most viewers in the first week, set on Wednesday, November 20, 2022, with 50.1 million. Squid Game is now Netflix’s most successful new show series.

Season 2’s premiere accounted for 487.6 million hours of watching, making it the seventh most-watched non-English language series on Netflix. Experts think the show will keep increasing in the rankings during the first 91 days of measurement. It might even beat the record set by the first season, which got 265.2 million views.

Season 2 of Squid Game has a global reach, as shown by its success in Netflix’s foreign markets. The series topped the charts in 92 of the 93 countries that the streaming service monitored. The only country where it wasn’t was the US, where it came in just behind the Christmas Day NFL games on the app.

After two years, this new season picks up with the main character, Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), deciding to return to the deadly battle. He aims to reveal and break up the group behind the games, with the mysterious Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) as his main target.

People are also interested in the original series again after the Season 2 premiere; it has returned to Netflix’s top 10 non-English language series list. During the same period, it got an extra 8.1 million views for 67.1 million hours. This resurgence shows how popular the first season was in the first place since many people watch it again before watching the new season.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s author and showrunner, has announced plans for a third and final season, which will be released next year. The critically praised story will end with this upcoming season. Squid Game’s continued popularity shows Netflix’s growing power in the foreign TV market and the growing need for content in languages other than English.
