Mariska Hargitay is directing My Mom Jayne, a new documentary about her mother, Jayne Mansfield. The film is scheduled to premiere on HBO in June.
The documentary includes interviews, personal photographs, and home movies. It follows Hargitay as she revisits her mother’s life through material not previously released to the public. The project examines both the public image and personal life of Mansfield, based on accounts from those who knew her.
Jayne Mansfield was active in film during the 1950s and 1960s. She received a Golden Globe and appeared in a number of studio productions. She was also trained as a pianist and violinist, and performed as a singer.
Mansfield died in 1967 in a car accident. She was 34. Hargitay, who was three at the time, was in the vehicle along with two siblings; all three survived.
Trish Adlesic produces alongside Hargitay. The two previously worked together on I Am Evidence, a documentary released by HBO in 2017. Lauran Bromley serves as executive producer.
Hargitay has directed multiple episodes of Law & Order: SVU, where she has played Olivia Benson since 1999. She is represented by CAA, The Lede Company, and Grubman Shire.
