One would think that the whole Squid Game phase has only just passed and no one watches it anymore, yet another season has already been announced for the near future.

The Korean series about a “squid game” took over the entire internet at the end of 2021, quite like the recent Netflix new series Wednesday.

After the latest episode with a mysterious ending was warmly received by fans, chief director Hwang Dong-hyuk was quick to confirm that the story for the next season is already in the development process.

Thus, it can be assumed that the first filming will be underway soon, if not already started, since the second season of the Korean masterpiece is expected to premiere later this year.

Sadly, there is no official release date for the next installment of the popular Korean survival series yet, but a few days ago creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed a bit about it in an interview with Vanity Fair.

In a nutshell, its creator estimated that the second season would appear as early as the end of 2023 or early 2024. So it seems that fans will wait only a few more months at best.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-owner and chief content officer himself, after meeting with the series’ lead director a year ago, has said that this universe is just beginning.

Thus, it is an indirect announcement of not only the second, but the third and subsequent parts of Squid Game. At one time Hwang Dong-hyuk admitted that he has 3 different sides of plot ideas for the next series of this title.

Moreover, the speculation of three seasons was confirmed in an article in The Korea Times, where Hwang said that he is in talks with Netflix for two more seasons of Squid Game.

I am in talks with Netflix for season 2, as well as season 3,” Hwang Dong-hyuk for KBS.

It’s known that the next season of Squid Game will further focus on the main character Gi-hun, who will attempt to unravel the mystery of a mysterious federation that organizes dangerous skirmishes for people in financial crisis. Lee Jung-jae in an interview with People said:

I have no idea what will happen or the scale of it, but the only thing director Hwang told me was that Seong Gi-hun will appear again in the series and play an arena.

However, in the following seasons, we can expect a completely different cast of actors due to the series’ storyline. Looking at how great numbers the Korean title has made, though, one can assume that we will see movie stars themselves on screen.
