Charlie Sheen said he has had sexual encounters with men, linking those experiences to periods of crack use and describing it as “liberating” to speak about now while promoting a memoir and two-part Netflix documentary. He shares the revelation in interviews tied to The Book of Sheen, out Sept. 9, and aka Charlie Sheen, debuting Sept. 10.
The actor, 60, said the encounters began while he was smoking crack and that candor feels freeing after years of secrecy. He also said he is eight years sober.
In a broadcast interview, Sheen said he concealed this part of his past because of what he called “tremendous” extortion, alleging people photographed his HIV medication and sought money to keep quiet before he publicly disclosed his diagnosis in 2015. He reiterated that he never transmitted the virus to anyone.
The new projects revisit turbulence that cost him work and prompted a high-profile public spiral in 2011. Sheen now frames that period with regret and says he is trying to keep attention on sobriety and family while reengaging selectively with Hollywood.
Ahead of the documentary’s release, Sheen has also attempted to reconnect with former Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer after a missed message, a small sign of fence-mending following earlier reconciliation with series co-creator Chuck Lorre.
