George Knight, a 28-year-old semi-professional footballer and one of the first bombshells to enter the Love Island UK Season 13 villa, quit the show after just three days — one of the earliest exits in the series’ history — citing unspecified family matters that required him to return home.
Knight, who plays for Dorking Wanderers FC and is from Winchester, arrived alongside fellow bombshell Yasmin Hadlow on the second day of the season, which premiered June 1 on ITV2. The pair landed with immediate impact: host Maya Jama informed them they had been given a secret mission to dump two Islanders within 24 hours of arriving.
George chose to send home Samraj Toor after getting to know Robyn Langton, while Yasmin selected Ellie Chadwick in order to pursue a connection with Aidan Murphy. The twist turned on itself when both supposed dumpees were revealed to still be in the game, returning to the villa the following day alongside two additional new arrivals.
That dramatic opening arc made Knight’s sudden departure all the more jarring. ITV confirmed his exit with a brief statement: “For private reasons, George has left the Love Island Villa. We have a duty of care towards George and as such will not be commenting further.” His fellow Islanders were informed on Sunday night’s episode, with Lorenzo relaying the news and Robyn — who had shared a kiss with George — responding simply: “Aww, George, we love you.”
Days after leaving, Knight posted on Instagram alongside a photo with his sister Emma and his dog: “Family comes first, always. Leaving the villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I’d prefer not to go into any further detail. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind messages and support.”
The exit cut short what had shaped up to be a messy love triangle. After being paired with Mica in a recoupling, tension built when Mica learned he had kissed Robyn. George later apologized to Mica for not being more sensitive to her feelings, and Mica told him she would step back and felt he had a stronger connection with Robyn. Robyn’s reaction to the news underscored the abruptness of the whole episode: “He was the only person I was actually kind of interested in.”
Love Island UK Season 13 features 14 total contestants and airs nightly on ITV2 and ITVX in the UK, with U.S. audiences streaming the show on Hulu.
