Chloe Bailey Still Wants to Play Storm as X-Men Casting Heats Up

With Kit Connor, Sadie Sink and Samara Weaving already locked into Marvel's X-Men reboot, Chloe Bailey continues lobbying for the role of Storm.

Chloe Bailey’s long-running campaign to play Storm in Marvel’s mutant universe has resurfaced this week, timed to a wave of casting news around the studio’s long-delayed “X-Men” reboot. The singer and actress has repeated the wish across several interviews dating back to 2022, most recently telling E! News at June’s BET Awards that Storm ranks among the superheroes inspiring her current style, alongside Wonder Woman and Thor.

Bailey first floated the idea publicly with a Halloween costume built around the character, a moment that drew a playful endorsement from Halle Berry, who played Storm across the original Fox trilogy. She later told Variety the role appealed to her because of the character’s presence.

“She is just so fierce and sexy and strong, all of the things I want to be, and she’s beautiful at the same time,” Bailey said. “And she doesn’t take any shit.” In a separate conversation with Collider, she noted Disney’s ownership of Marvel made the ask feel within reach: “I don’t know about a live-action, but I want to be Storm in Marvel, and Disney owns Marvel, so…”

Her renewed interest comes as Marvel accelerates the mutant team’s rebuild. Kit Connor has landed the role of Cyclops, joining previously confirmed castings of Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, both of whom debuted their MCU ties in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Jake Schreier, who directed “Thunderbolts*,” is set to direct the reboot, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo now writing the script.

Storm remains uncast, though speculation has intensified around actress Jayme Lawson following a report from Critics Choice Awards naming her as Marvel’s pick, a claim the studio has not confirmed. Cynthia Erivo has also been floated as a contender and has publicly called the role her dream part. With a broader cast reveal widely expected at D23 later this month, fans and industry watchers are treating the event as the likely moment Marvel settles the question of who will next carry Storm’s cape into the franchise.
