The highly anticipated Diablo 4 has finally landed on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, providing gamers an opportunity to delve deeper into the fascinating lore of this enduring Blizzard saga. The world of Sanctuary, the game’s setting, has been transformed into a sprawling, well-structured open world.
Over the years, players have journeyed across diverse regions of this mystical realm, situated between Heaven and Hell. However, the exact nature of Sanctuary has remained somewhat mysterious – until now.
Unraveling the Mystery of Sanctuary
If you’re a Diablo series veteran, you’re likely familiar with the origin story of Sanctuary. As Diablo 4 sheds light on five of its most intriguing regions, the Blizzard team has decided to reveal a significant detail about this enigmatic world.
Sanctuary, contrary to some speculation, is a spherical planet. It’s not a flat world by any means. Harrison Pink, the game’s Senior Mission Designer, put an end to such conjectures with a straightforward statement on Twitter.
In his tweet, Pink shared this intriguing information, declaring, “Sanctuary is a planet. I don’t know if we have ever said it officially or not, but it is 100% a spherical celestial body with at least 1 moon, not a plane with edges.”
Despite being a spherical planet, Sanctuary exists in its own pocket dimension. It was crafted this way by Inarius and Lilith to shield the world stone from prying eyes, according to the Diablo 4 manager.
Looking Forward to Future Expansions
So there you have it! If you’ve ever wondered about the nature of Sanctuary, your question has now been definitively answered! But how do you feel about Diablo 4’s new direction with its open-world approach?
So far, the game has allowed players to explore virtually the entire eastern continent of Sanctuary. Does this hint at more regions becoming accessible in future expansions that Blizzard might have in store?
